The 90’s were full of corny videos and just pure awesomeness. One of my favorite groups from the 90’s era was Wilson Phillips, comprised of Carnie Wilson, Wendy Wilson and Chynna Phillips. Their songs were catchy, emotional and their harmonies consisted of pure high-pitched fabulousness. In this week’s 90’s rewind, I take you back to this week in 1991 when Wilson Phillips’ You’re In Love topped the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Check it out here!
Wilson Phillips had many a song back in the 90’s and for one week in 1991, they celebrated probably with cans of Shasta for snagging up the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for their song You’re In Love. The slow, emotional pop ballad had many teens playing this song after a tragic breakup or as they pined for their crush. Sad, but true. Not that I would know by personal experience or anything.
Granted, this wasn’t Wilson Phillips’ first number one hit (this was their third), but come on, after spending four weeks on top of the adult contemporary chart, this could be deemed their most successful track.
Although their songs Hold On and Release Me each reached number one on the AC chart, they weren’t as successful or as notable as this single. And, they didn’t get the pretty sweet accolade You’re In Love got either.
Are you ready for this one, folks? This particular single also received a Grammy nod back in 1992 for the Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Duo or Group category, but unfortunately they got beat out by R.E.M.’s hit Losing My Religion. Still, a Grammy nod is pretty impressive especially with the type of competition these artists were dealing with back in the day! Needless to say, Wilson Phillips gave each artist out there a run for their money.
Check out the corny, but flavorful video of You’re In Love by Wilson Phillips below and then let me know what you think! Was this one of your favorite hits back in the day? I honestly can say that I blared this track on my tiny boom box back when I was growing up. Yep, I was one of the cool kids.
