In what is not shocking news at all, there is a lawsuit against Courtney Love filed by fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir and it involves social media. So just what has Love done this time to warrant Simorangkir to sue her, keep reading and you can find out. It is quite the interesting tale.
Dawn Simorangkir, a fashion designer, has filed a lawsuit against Courtney Love and it involves Twitter. Simorangkir is suing Love for defamation after the Hole singer sent out some nasty and untrue Tweets about her.
Here is a little background on the scuffle between these two ladies that turned into a social media tirade for days. According to The Hollywood Reporter the two woman were in a dispute over money for clothes which Dawn claims Courtney owed her. Love being the class act she is took to Twitter and began hurling shocking insults about the lady known as the “Boudoir Queen.” Courtney continued to slam Dawn in untrue statements via MySpace, Twitter and Etsy.com for the next four days reaching thousands of readers. Love has 40,000 followers on Twitter alone.
Needless to say these remarks didn’t sit well with Simorangkir who declared it was defamation of character which prompted her to file the first ever case of its kind. What I mean by that is when the trial begins on January 18th it will be the first trial based on a celebrity’s comments on Twitter. The outcome of the case will set a precedent for those that use Twitter, the question is will it be treated like all other media outlets or will it have its own set of rules?
The lawsuit against Courtney Love filed by fashion designer Dawn Simorangkir will have a lasting affect on the social media world. Especially if the rumored defense for Love is true, which is basically that Twitter was so addictive and appealing to Courtney that she had no appreciation for how her comments would be perceived by others. I know there are no words but if you can find something to say on this hot topic please let me hear it.
