Have you seen heard of the now famous Mike Tompkins, YouTube sensation? In case you haven’t, we have all you need to know about the unique YouTube talent here. Tompkins took his one man band talent to the Today Show on November 15th, 2010 to assist the hosts of the show to create a YouTube video of Dynamite by Taio Cruz. Not only do we have that video, but we have a few other popular vids that Tompkins has created himself. Check them out below!
Meet Mike Tompkins, Youtube one man talent. Tompkins takes popular songs and recreates them in his own fashion. The 23-year-old London, Ontario Canada native does all the production, engineering and mixing of his unique acapella mix. And, he even sings!
After Mike graduated from high school he went on to attend the Ontario Institute of Audio Recording Technology (OIART) and graduated with a diploma in music production.
Tompkins started beat boxing at the age of 8 years old and since then he has been experimenting with all aspects of musical creation. It wasn’t until 2010 that Tompkins decided to create a unique form of acapella music that involves him performing each part of the song set himself. Most musical artists have their own separate mixers, engineers and production crew…not Tompkins! All of the sounds you hear on his YouTube account come from just Tompkins’ mouth and voice.
It was his cover of Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream” and Bruno Mars “Just The Way You Are” that landed Tompkins over 2 million views…and that is just in one month’s time. Pretty damn impressive!
So what are Mike’s goals as an artist? All he wants to do is put a smile on your face!
