Meet Raquel Houghton, a contestant on this season’s “American Idol” and the former girlfriend of comedian Dane Cook. See her biography, photos and video here.
Raquel is a contestant on “American Idol” Season 8, and the strength of her audition combined with her experience in the music industry are leading some to speculate about her history with the show. She is being referred to as one of this year’s plants, and the controversy has begun. Similar to the backlash Carly Smithson received for having already had a recording contract, Raquel is feeling the heat for the contract she has had with the band the Valli Girls.
As a biography, Raquel Houghton is 28 years old. She lives in Los Angeles and works as a bartender and a waitress. She sang “Son of a Preacher Man” by Dusty Springfield for her AI audition.
Raquel is no stranger to Hollywood. Prior to her “American Idol” audition, she dated (and possibly lived with) comedian Dane Cook. She even partially toured with him, singing the national anthem before every one of his shows at Madison Square Garden, which were taped for HBO. The timing of their break-up seems to coincide with Dane Cook’s appearance in “Employee of the Month” and the rumors of a Jessica Simpson hook-up. While dating, Cook described her as independent and funny.
Raquel was also the lead singer of the band the Valli Girls. The band says,
Raquel Houghton is our fearless lead singer who always brings the funk when we’re jamming. Plus she has the best reflexes of anyone in the Valley.
