As I watched tonight’s American Idol, I got sidetracked doing all kinds of other things: cleaning up the kitchen, folding laundry, checking out my feed reader. Then I had a thought that so many before me have had, “Has American Idol lost its oomph since Paula is gone?”

I remember American Idol being something that I really looked forward to and now, well, not so much. Does Paula really have that much to do with it? I never really was a fan of her, even way back when with the whole Straight Up, Now Tell Me Do You Wanna Love Me Forever (don’t lie, you totally sang along with me, didn’t you?) But can American Idol survive without her? Can it possible survive without Simon? Time will tell, I suppose. If I was a gambling person (and the co-host of the Bachelor), I would say that we need to start saying our goodbyes to American Idol.

I, like you, laughed at last week’s “Pants on the Ground” but tonight there were no pants on the ground. There were no standout good performances or bad performances. It was all just blah same ol’ same ol’. Though there was a moment when Shaina Twain, the guest judge for the evening, got a little fluttered by a contestant and that made me giggle. However, there were not any standout moments. And I say that with a heavy sigh.

So, you tell me, what do you think of American Idol so far? Are you enjoying it without Paula? And most importantly, do you think Ellen can save this show? Oh! And one last question (really you don’t have anything else to do than to answer my questions, right?) once Simon leaves, who should be teamed up with Ellen and Randy? Oh! oh! oh! one more question… what song would you sing if you just had to audition for American Idol? As long it isn’t The Climb, I bet we could be best friends!

And just in case you haven’t seen it enough, please enjoy the best part of American Idol 2010 thus far….
