X-Factor contestant Danyl Johnson was seen sporting a fresh haircut for his rendition of Prince’s “Purple Rain” last Saturday. The video of his remarkable performance is already receiving thousands of views on YouTube. Read more below.
Just two weeks ago the rising star seemed to have stagnated as he fell into the bottom two contestants. Now if you look at the X-Factor betting odds the 27-year-old schoolteacher has risen to second place, right behind Olly Murs who’s in first.
It seems that reducing his hair down to a buzz cut was what he needed to regain confidence, and the judge’s favor. However, according to reports, Simon Cowell was opposed to Johnson shaving his head, but that obviously didn’t stop him.
Judges Dannii Minogue, Louis Walsh, and Cheryl Cole all praised his performance, and even gave him a compliment of two on the new hairdo.

As a biography, Danyl Johnson is a 27-year-old Dance and Drama teacher. He sang the “Wonder Years” theme song “With a Little Help From My Friends” for his first performance on “X-Factor”, for which Simon said it was the best first audition that he had ever seen. He’s the lead singer of a band called Empty Spaces, who are currently unsigned. Also, the video for his Beatles rendition has nearly 100,000 views on the worlds most popular video sharing website.
