The singer expresses, “The way that the songs progress are gonna take you on a natural high. I just want you to feel a sense of freedom, I want you to feel out-of-the-box, feel inspired,” adding, “You’re definitely going to be taken on a trip, I know you’re going to be shocked, you’re going to hear things that you probably didn’t think that I would sound like. It’s a journey.”

The singer also says that when deciding the title for her new album that her thoughts involved finding herself, making her own choices and signifying how to honor herself. She says that having the ability to be able to practice her rights honestly and openly is how the title of her record evolved.

At the front of the auditorium at NYU, Keys spoke with brilliance and “conviction”. She expresses that she wanted to reach out to the young people who share the love for the arts. Also, involving the audience by giving the the opportunity to ask questions.

She says of her fifth studio album, “Every song that you hear on the album has an element of freedom in it. If it’s the way that I’m singing, or the style that I’m explaining something,” adding, “For me, freedom is a big deal…I think for all of us because we’re all looking for our wings to fly, to not be held back, to be free to be who we are. So that’s another reason why I called it ‘The Element of Freedom.’”
