Are the rumors true? Will Aerosmith Breakup so that way frontman Steven Tyler can be free to work on a solo project? Read more below.
E Online is reporting that the “I Don’t Want To Miss A Thing” singer may be taking his final bow. At least with the band that launched him into unprecedented fame in the 70s. Noooooo! Tell me it’s not true!
I have read several reports suggesting that this isn’t a big deal because Tyler “makes the band anyway”. However, that attitude shows blatant disrespect for lead guitarist Joe Perry, who’s among the best guitar players in Rock history.
For example, if it wasn’t for Perry the Guitar Hero Aerosmith edition wouldn’t be nearly as exciting to play. Not to mention that his wicked solos and unique lead riffs help make up the groups classic sound that legions of fans have come to love.
Here’s the top ten list of the bands classic rock songs:
Dream On
Walk This Way
Sweet Emotion
Same Old Song and Dance
Cryin
Toy In The Attic
Love In An Elevator
Livin’ On The Edge
Come Together
Janie’s Got A Gun
Is it just me or are these guys getting way too ancient to be rocking out jam packed stadiums anyways? Perhaps they all should just call it a day, and retire before they blow out a hip or something. Yeah, I know the Rolling Stones are still doing it, but their brand of Rock is pale in comparison to “The Bad Boys From Boston’s” brand.
What are your thoughts about the Aerosmith Breakup rumors? Should Steven Tyler work on a solo project?

Say what you will about their age (Tyler, 61, is the oldest member), they still rock harder LIVE than most young bands.
I think Tyler wants nothing to do with Aerosmith. There’s been a rift between Tyler and Perry for the last several years. I’ll take Perry’s word that Tyler has quit.

The “rift” (to put it conservatively) between Tyler and Perry goes way way way back. Frankly, I’m surprised they lasted long as they did. Aerosmith is one of a kind for sure, but Tyler, what a diva! (again, to put it conservatively).

I’ve been an Aerosmith fan since 1971. I’ve seen them in concert 25 times and can’t wait to see them again. I have an Aerosmith room with an autographed guitar and other autographed pieces. My BF Tammy was the fan of the week March 2008. It would certainly be disappointing to your fans but I realize that life is about change. Whatever the Boys from Boston choose to do… Aerosmiths music has transcended a generation of us to a place where we will always remember where we were when we heard a particular song, remember a concert, the friends that we were with and new friends that were made. Thank you for the good times. Work it out… I still have a few years left in me, and I’m determined to meet Steven!!!

Now would be a great opportunity to do what Aerosmith should have done at least ten years ago: Call it quits! They have done nothing relevant for over a decade. They are a parody of themselves. Blah.

I saw Aerosmith with opener act The Paul Collins Beat in 1981. This version of Aerosmith was more or less the “Steven Tyler” Aerosmith because the original guitar players Brad Whitford and Joe Perry were subbed by Rick Dufay and Jimmy Crespo. I believe Joe Perry was doing his own solo thing with The Joe Perry Project. During that concert, I honestly enjoyed The Paul Collins Beat and their guitar player more than that half-baked version of Aerosmith, mainly because guitarist Joe Perry was nowhere to be found. Regardless, this concert showed me how important Steven Tyler is to the band, just as Steven Tyler is neccessary. His vocals are a HUGE party of the equation. Take away Steven Tyler’s voice and it’s hard to say if the music would be the same. Boston was able to replace their lead singer after he passed away a few years ago. Journey has again replaced their singer a few times, most recently with a much younger man who sounds alot like Steve Perry on all the songs. Nonetheless, the best solution may be for Aerosmith to go on hiatus until Steven Tyler can complete an effective rehab program which could last up to a year or more.
