Many critics are speculating that the recently released Michael Jackson movie “This Is It” is Oscar worthy. The question is does the film’s $101 million in box office earnings guarantee a nomination? Read more below.
MJ’s untimely death undoubtedly boosted the astronomical box office figures for a documentary. Regardless, it’s reasonable to assume that fans would have flocked to the film even if that weren’t the tragic case. Despite the shroud of controversy that surrounded the pop icon, he always had a legion of hardcore fans by his side. A matter of fact, in the truest sense of the term, his fans are like no other.
But despite the movie’s high grossing, and people’s sentiment, does it have the merit for an Oscar nomination? I believe so. How do you feel?
Unfortunately, it’s too late for the film to be nominated for best documentary, however the best picture category is still up for grabs.
The reason I believe that this film should win an Academy Award is because it helps rebuild Jackson’s reputation as a superlative performer. It depicts in perfect form the time and dedication that the King of Pop rendered in order to put on a spectacular show for his audience.
Who brought this masterpiece to life? Director Kenny Ortega carefully crafted the two-hour long movie from an excess of 100 hours of recordings captured during London rehearsals.

1000% YES! The intent was just a rehearsal for the king of pop to prepare, and put in his archives. Under such sad circumstances, we actually get to see a documentary of him in a way that we never has,. This gives the film merit, as it adds to the genious of the man and shows a work ethic to admire and how much substance he was made of. DEFINITELY NOT A WACKO JACKO!!!!! IT’s a classice and a fabulous lesson for young people to learn from. Watching him work so hard, despite the abuse he suffered at the hands of his father…and critics…and always returning to his superstardom…with MERIT. IT’S BRILLIANT! HE WAS BRILLIANT!!!!
