Tonight (October 29, 2009) Alicia Keys and Jay-Z will perform “Empire State of Mind” together at the World Series. Read more below.
From the moment Alicia Keys answered her ringing phone, and was asked by hip hop mogul Jay-Z to be a part of the “Empire State of Mind” track that she had to do it. Soon after, the classically trained pianist found herself in the studio working on the NY ode.
At first it didn’t come together as easily as the two of them had hoped for. Keys was sick at the time, and it took a few tries to get it right. In a recent interview with MTV she explained that she had to come back and revisit the song “so that it could be what it is now”. Well, I must say that all of your hard work has paid off Miss Keys, because in my opinion it came out phenomenal! (What do you think?)
The first time the duo performed the song together was at the Video Music Awards last September . Now they get another shot at performing it in front of a worldwide audience tonight at game 2 of the World Series. So even if you aren’t a fan of the Yankees or the Phillies there is still a good reason to watch.
Here are a few of Jay’s lyrics:
I’m the new Sinatra,
And since I made it here,
I can make it anywhere,
Yeah they love me everywhere,
I used to cop in Harlem,
All of my dominicanos
Right there up on broadway,
Brought me back to that McDonalds
