Fans are gearing up for the biggest annual event in music, which will take place on November 22 and air live on ABC. Get the list of the 2009 American Music Awards nominees here.
There are two main components that make the American Music Awards so great. Number one is that fans decide the winners in each category by voting online, and the second is the span of genres that the awards show recognizes. What is your favorite genre? And who will you cast your vote for?
Lets discuss a few of the biggies, shall we?
Artist Of The Year: Kings of Leon, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Eminem, and Michael Jackson.
Wow! What an exciting category with such an array of talented artists. Although all of these nominees are deserving of the award in their own right, I think Michael Jackson pretty much has this one on lock.
Pop/Rock – Favorite Male Artist: Eminem, Michael Jackson, and T.I.
Once again my vote goes to MJ.
Favorite Female Artist: Beyonce, Lady Gaga, and Taylor Swift
This is a toughie. With such talent, this category is really up for grabs.
Pop/Rock Favorite Band, Duo or Group: The Black Eyed Peas, Kings of Leon, and Nickelback.
With out a doubt, The Black Eyed Peas own this category.
Pop/Rock – Favorite Album: Fame – Lady Gaga, Number Ones – Michael Jackson, and Fearless – Taylor Swift.
Drum roll please! And the winner is…The King of Pop! Or at least that’s my prediction.

It does not bother me that living legend and Queen of Pop/R&B Whitney Houston did not receive a nomination for “I Look To You.” Fans vote and not a panel of music experts. These decisions are based on popularity. They always have been based on popularity amongst kids and teens mostly.
