Kelly Osbourne painkiller addiction? Fierce, her new book, finds the singer and reality TV star revealing she was addicted to Vicodin by age 17. See photos, video and find out more about how coping with being on MTV’s ‘The Osbournes’ drove the addiction, as revealed in the new book which will be released on September 3, 2009.
The daughter of former Black Sabbath frontman and legendary Godfather of Heavy Metal, Ozzie Osbourne and his wife, Sharon Osbourne (presently a judge on America’s Got Talent), the 24-year-old punk rock singer Kelly Osbourne now reveals in the book that she was, at one time, taking far more pills than prescribed. She said
“By this point I was waking up and emptying six Vicodin into my hand. Soon I was taking 50 pills a day. Most people would overdose on 10. My friends called me ‘Noddy’ because I fell asleep all the time.”
She also revealed that her Vicodin addiction worsened in 2002 when her mother was diagnosed with colon cancer and again the following year when her father was involved in a near-fatal quad-bike accident.
The Kelly Osbourne painkiller addiction; as Fierce reveals, was severe and obviously quite dangerous, with her parents sending her to rehab, at Malibu’s Promises clinic for 30 days. She eventually went to rehab three more times, in three different facilities; most recently in 2009. She even spent time at the psychiatric ward in UCLA Medical Institution in Los Angeles of which she said
“I was so frightened, it was full of crazy people. As I curled up in a ball the air was filled with ear-piercing screams. I didn’t leave my room for five days. It’s one of the scariest things I have ever done.”
Regarding the last stint, which was in Oregon, she said:
“If I think about relapsing again, I want to cry. I’m realistic. For the first time, I’ve learned my biggest lesson: there’s strong chance I will relapse. But because I recognise that, I feel like I’ve got the strength to fight it.”
