And this year, third time’s a charm! Green Day’s live performance on September 13th in New York will be the bands’ third time onstage at the VMAs. In 2004, they made their debut with Insomniac’s Armatage Shanks and in 2005, over a decade later, they performed American Idiot’s Boulevard of Broken Dreams winning the Video Award for that song as well.

MTV News reports that Green Day lead Billie Joe Armstrong says that the band is excited to be a part of the VMAs and that it’s always a memory in the making, insinuating a great experience.

According to the Rock & Roll Daily, Green Day will perform a song off their new album 21st Century Breakdown. It also states that there are three tracks from that album that are available for “Rock Band” including 21 Guns, Know Your Enemy and East Jesus Nowhere.
