The interview with the older brother was the first the family has given since the tragic and untimely death of Michael Jackson on June 25, 2009. As the Jermain Jackson Today Show video reveals, he discussed his own reaction to his brother’s death, what it was like to hear from his mother of the death, and seeing his brother after he had passed.

Regarding the loss, the 54-year-old singer and former member of The Jackson 5 said: “There’s nothing that can compare to this. We lost our brother, our healer. The world is mourning, we are mourning, the fans are mourning, it’s unbelievable.

Regarding seeing his brother after his death: “I wanted to see Michael and see my brother. Seeing him lifeless and breathless was very emotional for me, but I held myself together because I knew he was very much alive and his spirit lives on. I was just a shell. I kissed him on his forehead, I hugged him and I touched him and I said to him, ‘Michael, I’ll never ever leave you. You’ll never leave me.’ I felt really, really empty.”

At one point in the interview, he said: “This sounds strange but … I wish it was me because I always felt that I was his backbone. Someone to be there for him. Things he couldn’t say, I would say them.”

He went on to say: “Michael is a gift from Allah. And he has taken him back.”

The interview took place at the Neverland Ranch (pictures below) which had recently been scrapped as both a location for the memorial and the burial of Michael Jackson. The music legend had purchased the ranch in 1987 and while he lived there through 2005, it housed both an amusement park and a zoo.

In the Jermaine Jackson Today Show video reveals that he wishes that his brother could be buried there.

Michael Jackson is survived by his three children, Jackson, who died after suffering cardiac arrest on June 25, left behind three children: Michael Joseph Jackson Jr, Paris Michael Katherine Jackson, 11; and Prince Michael II, (aka Blanket Jackson) and in the Jermaine Jackson interview with Matt Lauer he also reveals that the children also saw their father after his death.

The untimely death of the King of Pop leaves behind, additionally, an extensive musical legacy. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame both as a solo artist and, along with his brothers, as a member of the Jackson 5. He received 13 Grammy Awards and his worldwide album and singles sales exceeded 750 million. His groundbreaking 1982 album Thriller album went on to become the best selling album in music history and has been certified 28 times platinum by the RIAA.
