Tune in for the live telecast of the 9th annual awards ceremony which takes place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles with host Jamie Foxx (photo above), Oscar winning actor and Grammy winning R&B singer.

What time does the 2009 BET Awards start? At 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET. The program will be tape delayed for West Coast broadcast.

In the aftermath of the June 25, 2009 death of King of Pop Michael Jackson, look for many tributes to be paid to the legendary performer by presenters and performers alike. The show will, in addition to presenting the awards, honor the life, legacy and musical genius of Michael Jackson whose untimely death at age 50 has left the music world in shock.

“Words cannot capture the impact Michael Jackson has had on pop culture around the world,” said Debra L. Lee, chairman and chief executive officer of BET Networks. “He changed the way we hear and feel and move to music; he epitomized what true musical talent and star power really mean. He is and always will be the King of Pop.”

Michael Jackson made a memorable appearance onstage at the 2003 BET Awards along side Godfather of Soul James Brown who received the BET Lifetime Achievement Award that year. You can see video of that historic moment below.

There will be confirmed performances at the 2009 BET Awards by Beyonce, Ne-Yo, Kanye West, Queen Latifah, and Keri Hilson, Maxwell, Fabolous, Soulja Boy, Keyshia Cole and Mary Mary, with a rumors of possible performances by Lil’ Kim and Teairra Mari. Look for both surprise musical guests as well as Michael Jackson tribute performances.

Others slated to make appearances include Snoop Dogg, Paula Patton, Estelle, LeToya Luckett, Anthony Anderson, Nichelle Nichols, Tyra Banks, Taraji P. Henderson, Idris Elba, Keke Palmer, Ray J, Ving Rhames, Zoe Saldana, Sherri Shepherd, and Marlon Wayans. Expect to see many figures from the entertainment world in the BET red carpet pictures.

This year, already announced 2009 BET Awards Winners include the legendary soul trio, the O’Jays will receive the 2009 BET Lifetime Achievement Award by presenters Tyrese, Trey Songz and Johnny Gill. The group is known for signature hits Love Train, For the Love of Money and Back Stabbers.

Grammy Award winning singer-songwriter Alicia Keys will receive the 2009 BET Humanitarian Award.
